How about a Couples Massage

Peaceful Spirit’s “Couples Massages” are available at our two hotel locations only. It is a wonderful idea for couples to receive massage at the same time and in the same room. The relaxing benefits of massage shared with another is very special. How often during our everyday lives are you and your significant other both in that “blissful” state of relaxation at exactly the same time? This is a perfect way to honor each other and maybe “make a day of it”. Enjoy the hotel pool, hot tub, restaurants and gorgeous atmosphere all while in that shared blissful state of mind!

Or a Warming Ginger Massage

Peaceful Spirit’s warming ginger massage is perfect for chronically tight muscles, chronic back or neck pain. This hydrotherapy treatment is also very sedating! In this treatment we grate fresh ginger root and steep it in hot water to make a tea. We soak towels in this warm ginger tea and then apply them to the area of chronic tension. This process is repeated for about 20 minutes or until the muscles have completely softened. The therapist will then massage the area to release the deepest layers of muscle. This is extremely effective and relaxing!

Get your Father the perfect gift of health and relaxation this year….a healing, soothing massage at Peaceful Spirit Massage and Wellness Centers.

As the owner of this massage and wellness center I am asked many questions about what is “right or wrong” about massage, acupuncture and bodywork in general. Should I feel this way or that? What is __________ good for? And so on…..tucson massage

One of the most important questions I answer on a regular basis is, “Does it or should it hurt?” For the purposes of this article I am going to focus on massage therapy and this question.

Some folks feel that if the massage doesn’t hurt its not doing anything for you. Others feel that massage should never hurt and that being sore after a massage is bad. My quick answer is that both of these myths are false.

First I would like to define “hurt”. We are trained to help alleviate soft tissue problems. Sometimes this process can be uncomfortable depending on many factors like does one have an actual injury to the tissue or is there a chronic repetitive movement pattern that is simply over working and fatiguing the muscles causing pain. Either way and always for the client receiving treatment the “hurt” that you feel from the process should be one that you can breathe through and relax with. For example, on a pain scale of 1-10 (ten being excruciating) the “hurt” or pain that you feel from the massage should never be more then a 7 or 8. You should be able to take a deep breath and relax with the pressure helping the muscle to also relax and release the spasm. If you find yourself tensing, or unable to take a breath then the pressure is too much and you should ask the therapist to lighten up if they have not already done so.

Should I be sore after my massage? Quick answer is sometimes. The soreness should not be acute pain, but more like a good work out or a hard day’s work soreness. When one receives deep therapy we are separating muscle layers, milking metabolic waste out from between the layers and sometimes breaking up adhesions or scar tissue. These types of sessions may leave you sore, but then after 1-2 days (on rare occasions 3 days) you should feel great and that problem area should be much better. You may see that you have an increase in your range of motion, reduction of pain or increased muscle stamina, depending of course on what the problem was in the first place. Massage therapy is like dancing on the edge of the good pain and the bad at times, it is a very thin line.

Now I will address effectiveness. What is more effective deep, moderate or light massage? The quick answer to this one is all of the above. No one is a stagnant, unchanging body where the same exact treatment is exactly what you need every time. In addition, over time and the more types of massage and bodywork you receive the more sensitive you become to the different benefits of each type and style. So you may find yourself needing a more nurturing and supportive type of session on some days and then perhaps after that hard work out or a day pulling weeds in the garden you made need more deep tissue or sports style. And yet, on other days you may crave the gentle, subtle yet powerful energy work session to help with deep relaxation, introspection and balance. Humans have tremendous depth like the seemingly never ending layers of an onion. At some point you do get to the core layers where you have gained a very deep understanding of your self and are very in touch with your body, mind and spirit and what specific needs you have; then you will know what is right for you in that moment.

Until you get to that level of awareness, we are here to help you figure it out along the way. I invite and encourage you to talk with my therapists and ask questions, and don’t hesitate to communicate during your treatment if you need more or less pressure, or more time on the trouble area. Or, find out if a different style altogether would be better for you. This will not hurt our feelings it will help you get the BEST treatments possible. Remember it is your time, money and most of all your body, so get the treatment that you need.

It is a huge part of our mission to help educate our clients so that they can learn how to care for themselves as much as possible so they come in for treatment because they “want” to, not because they “have” to.

Tucson Massage

Basic Swedish Massage is the foundation of most treatments.  It includes the 5 basic Swedish strokes:

1.  Effleurage which consists of long, gliding strokes from the neck down to the base of the spine or from the shoulder down totucson massage the fingertips. When done on the limbs, all strokes are toward the heart to aid blood and lymphatic flow. It is done with the whole hand or the thumb pads. Effleurage is designed to acquaint the therapist with his or her subject’s body and vice versa.

2.  Petrissage which  involves gently lifting muscles up and away from the bones, then rolling and squeezing them, again with a gentle pressure. It generally involves kneading and compression motions – rolling, squeezing, or pressing the muscles to enhance deeper circulation. Petrissage attempts to increase circulation with clearing out toxins from muscle and nerve tissue.

3.  Friction is the most penetrating of the strokes, and consists of deep circular or transverse movements made with the thumb pads or fingertips. The therapist applies deep, circular movement near joints and other bony areas (such as the sides of the spine). Friction breaks down adhesions, which are knots that result when muscle fibers bind together during the healing process, thus contributing to more flexible muscles and joints.

4.  Tapotement which consists of a series of briskly applied percussive movements, using the hands alternately to strike or tap the muscles for an invigorating effect. There are many variations on this stroke. It may be applied with the edge of the hand, with the tips of the fingers, or with a closed fist. Tapotement attempts to release tension and cramping from muscles in spasm.

5.  Vibration or Shaking involves the therapist pressing his or her hands on the back or limbs, and rapidly shaking for a few seconds. It boosts circulation and increase the power of the muscles to contact. Vibration is particularly helpful to people suffering from low-back pain.

Your Basic Swedish Massage is known to have the following benefits:

  • Releases muscle tension

Tucson Massage

We are definitely right in the middle of the Information Age.  More and more of us each day are spending increasing hours working with the tool that epitomizes the the Information Age…our computers.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an increasing problem in a time of computer keyboards and a high demand for fine-motor skills. Tucson MassageCarpal Tunnel is caused by the compression of the median nerve in the wrist. This nerve travels, with nine tendons, through the carpal bones of the wrist called the ‘Carpal Tunnel’ to the hand and fingers.

There is limited space in this tunnel, so any inflammation of the tissues will cause the median nerve to be compressed. At first this may cause only minor irritation, but, over time, it may lead to nerve damage.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can range from moderate to severe, and can, in severe cases, result in paralysis of the wrist.

Massage is indicated for treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
as it can help promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and aid in the removal of local toxins, all of which can help alleviate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Massage is certainly preferable to the more drastic approaches of anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injections, or surgery, which may only provide temporary relief.

Are you experiencing any signs or symptoms that indicate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
If so call Peaceful Spirit Massage and Wellness Centers today  and let our highly trained and intuitive Tucson massage therapists get you quickly back on the information highway pain free.  Call for your appointment today…(520) 320-1953.
